ORI’s Choices Program provides recreational, educational, and social activities for persons with developmental disabilities that enhance their quality of life. In this program, individuals learn to make better use of their downtime when they are not employed. There are many in-house activities such as exercise class, arts and crafts, computer activities, and cooking class. Community groups visit and provide special classes such as Dog Therapy Class, African Drum Circle, Bible Class, and Friday Music Class with Mohan. We truly believe that community integration enhances the quality of life for our clients, and a partnership with Missoula community members is critical to this process of integration.
The Choices Program also promotes access to community events and activities whenever possible. Common day trips include outings to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the Roxy Theater, Out To Lunch, swimming at Currents and workouts at the YMCA. In Summer, longer trips are planned to Flathead Lake, the Daly Mansion, the Sweet Palace in Phillipsburg, and Garnet Ghost Town.
The training supervisors and coordinators in this program provide support and encouragement in times of stress and during times when individuals might need assistance in problem solving. The Choices Program staff strives to create an area that is productive, fun and safe for all individuals served.
